Immunization

 Bee Wise, Immunize

Services

The Immunization Program offers vaccines for free and parents should take every opportunity ahead of time to ensure their children have all the required immunizations to alleviate their children from being suspended from classes, but most importantly to protect them from some very serious diseases. The average cost for immunizing each child is $1,486.31, not including administrative cost and doctors fees. Through the services provided by the CNMI Immunization Program, these fees are not passed on to parents. Other services and fees provided by the Immunization Clinic include the following:

 ·         Health Certificates- $2.50

·         Health Summary- $2.50

·         NMC Health Evaluation- $2.50

·         Re-issuance of Yellow Card- $2.50

 Eligibility

The CNMI Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program provides vaccines to eligible children from birth through 18 years of age free of charge.  A child is eligible for the VFC program if he/she meets one of the following criteria:

1.       Medicaid: A child eligible for the Medicaid program - for the purposes of the VFC program, the terms “Medicaid-eligible” and “Medicaid-enrolled” are equivalent

2.       Uninsured: A child who has no health insurance coverage

3.       Underinsured: A child who has private health insurance but the coverage does not include vaccines, a child whose insurance covers only selected vaccines, or a child whose insurance caps vaccine coverage at a specific amount.

4.       American Indian or Alaska Native: as defined by the Indian Health Care Improvement Act (25 U.S.C. 1603)

PAYMENT REQUIRED?

If your child meets one of the VFC eligibility criteria, as listed above, the vaccine must be provided free of charge.  However, each immunization provider in the CNMI has been granted (by law) the ability to charge an “administrative fee”.  This fee is similar to a patient’s co-pay.  The Commonwealth Healthcare Corporation’s (CHCC) Immunization Clinic does not charge an administrative fee.
